as i said it is bad as first item, armlet and boots are much better and only after you can consider echo sabre, and yet still there are better items (like dagon :D kappa)
There is almost no better item after armlet than echo sabre most games
Only rarely would halberd be needed that early, or bkb directly after armlet, or MAYBE blink right after armlet, otherwise echo sabre is the go to.

taking account that drums is 1000 gold cheaper,we think that drums is at least on par in terms of cost/benefit.
But what makes echo sabre much better is its passive.
"Causes melee attacks to attack twice in quick succession. The double attacks apply a 100% movement slow for 0.7 seconds on each strike."
That means every time chaos uses realitty rift he has a extra 12% chance to cause critical hit,plus the slow on hit makes sure him and all his illusions attack at least once(if you dont know that means death to the majority of heroes out there).
And finally its much better in lane,the double hit is a big nuke and the almost 1 sec slow makes sure you hit your stun in close range after reality rift.

ck dont care bout items, ck only cares about being kited, slow farm (compared to other carries), illus dying too fast.
echo and armlet is an either or item for ck
One of my favourite carry,i mean carry as it not favourite to play.Me and my friend call this meta ck "CK550" we used to do echo first item every game but now its just better to go sange and yasha on ck and drums on io,there it is ck io 550ms,perma haste rekt,fucking good.

Sny was nerfed pretty hard in 7.14 (+400 gold cost) and that's rightly so because it became an alternative for echo saber and manta where people just straight up stopped buyding those items and just bought an sny instead. But now its not worth getting it anymore unless the item perfectly fits your hero which isnt CK's case. So echo > sny
Personally I play alot of CK and armlet typically outshines most of the cheaper items. I prefer Drums over EchoSabre. CK is already a sticky burst hero and adding more sticky is really not what he needs. Just my Opinion.
Where will Chaos Knight get his mana if he doesn't build Echo Sabre? Even with Echo Sabre I still need mangoes in my backpack whenever I play that hero.
I looked at Chaos Knight's pro player guides and none of them build drums, you think Chaos Knight always fights with his ulti on so he has to get drums for the synergy, but he doesn't, but he does use his 2nd skill Reality Rift alot, which comboes well with Sabre better than Drums.
I really don’t get the point of echo sabre. Atos (stop them escaping) or halberd (someone snowballing) always seem more appropriate after treads and armlet. I’m sure echo is good I just don’t understand the point. Can’t you just stun them after rift if you need more time to burst them?
Everything abt sabre is good
Mana and Mana Regen on a Mana hungry hero
Strength and him is great
The passive helps him kite better, burst synergizes with reality rift
And it's relatively cheap

The point is that ur initiation range is massive, u can jump from fog with that much range
And they won't know abt Phantasm coming till they get bursted in rift, since u will pull ur illusions from where u cast it even after blinking
Tho u can do whatever combo I needed if u already popped Phantasm or just need to blink stun to set up an allied ability or whatever
