Spent time in dota or high medal? If someone is crusader and played 5000h do he know more than someone who is ancient and played only 500h?

    Escaping the Pool

No, it only means the crusader player is autistic and refuses to learn.

not always true. I've been playing dota on and off since the old wc3 days and it is annoying that you still get to play with people who only have been playing for a short amount of time and have limited knowledge of the game.

Medals are only a linear progression and not a fair judgement to a players in depth know how of the game and all its aspects.

A lot of people know how to operate a handfull of heroes. But you ban one or lose a roll for "your lane" and they play like 2k again. Fair enough.

I would love to see a feature like the old Garena network, which was the more games you had played on your account, combined with the amount of wins would get you into higher brackets. That is to say veteran accounts had some kind of leverage to it... Play 5k games and you are bound to have a good understanding of the game.

This way you could also eliminate all the annoying smurf accounts with only 100ish games played on. Now they could all be playing each other and smurf each other instead of inflating the mmr system. Cool huh?

Nothing worse than seeing your level 22 account carry player go 0-10

            lmao

No way you can be ancient by playing 500hrs

                  @Ryan My point exactly.

@lmao Oh yeah? then you havn't met the clan of the smurfs

imo the level badges should have some role to play when matchmaking is done. Or atleast incorporate number of games played and have that account for something. Same with unranked, i have to face ppl with lvl 15 badge.. feels bad man

in my experience people with 8k games in 3k are some of the worst players you can meet

^this. I think in dota theres 2 option, be average at every hero for long time, or be good at 1 for a short period of time.

When i play other hero, i need to read the spell description to even know what it does.

REset is a scam. When i play unranked i get matched with ancients - lower divine.Tried playing ranked after 4 years and calibrated the same shit mmr both party and solo.

If you had spent thousands of hours in crusader bracket, better stop being toxic and know that the problem is with the player himself.

I mean, if your MMR is super super low and you have a lot of time spent, then something is wrong. Personally, I am 3.3k now but I used to be 5K. What can I say, I'm a busy man nowadays.

                                              Harry potter is a tosser

I saw this research on IQ that indicated that the longer you "play"/"work" the less important your experience becomes and it comes down to raw intellectual power. The comparison I believe is applicable if you look at what's important about DoTA when it comes to intellectual skill and gaming experience.

In two studies I read about DoTA and "intellectual capacity" it came down to 4 measures that where associated with proficiency at DoTA. One was visual short term memory, second was reaction time, third was knowledge of DoTA and the forth was arithmetic speed(WEIRD).

A different comparison is if you compare DoTa to soccer. Both have similar aspects of requiring you to make decisions at a high speed. Researchers have looked at soccer players and their executive functions score and compared this to assists and goals during a season (controlling for position) and found that they where highly positively correlated, thus if you remove the physical and motoric aspects of soccer you can probably compare DoTA "game sense" and soccer.

Executive functions is whats important to this and it has to do with ajusting yourself as the situation changes. (No wonder its a good indicator of game sense.) When they came up with that working memory was one of the predictors I researched the importance of working memory on fluid intelligence and executive functions and found a study that correlated executive functions to fluid intelligence at 0.91 and that working memory was the best predictor.

So if you want to disregard actually playing and want an estimate of your potential, this as far as I can tell is the way to go :). Also I only read two articles about DotA proficiency so there might be more to it, for example the depth of learning that is required.

I am smurf but I have 2700 hours and ancient 3 on my main.
