Shopify Rebellion, despite a 3rd place finish, still prove why they’re one of the best and most consistent teams in Dota (just take a look at their placements and previous tournaments). It’s a testament to their skill, the versatility of their players, and their Dota IQ to be able remain at the top of the competition, regardless of patch and meta.
With their fourth place finish, MVP Phoenix had their best placement in a premier tournament since TI5. It’s hard to imagine that at one point the community and professional players said that SEA shouldn’t have its own region for qualifiers, because they had no teams worth competing against.
The joke about an inevitable wave of Korean prodigies ready to take over Dota is now old, but it might not happen in the way we think. There’s a severe lack of young SEA and Korean talent, when compared to the pool of players that US, EU, and China can cull from. It won’t be anytime soon that we’ll see a boom of competitive Korean teams, but for now we have teams like MVP.Phoenix and Ascent Esports, who improve event after event.
With the Major done, all eyes are pointed towards the next main event: the post-tournament drama, where teams kick players, acquire ones, shuffling and re-arming their rosters for the next Dota Major in Manila. Sometimes these new teams look nothing like their old, with only one or two remaining players. Chinese teams may benefit from something new to jumpstart themselves after their lackluster performance at the major. But other teams may benefit to maintain their roster, valuing stability, trust, and a commitment to improve. There are plenty of teams throughout this tournament who, despite not winning it all, can still be happy with their results.
Puppey is now the first and only player in Dota 2 history to win two official Valve events. Took him 1660 days. pic.twitter.com/3Fztz8T7Be

It ended with a 33(w) shackleshot on Team Liquid’s highground, roping two heroes at such a distance that the observer had to recenter the camera to see who was caught, but the game was perhaps sealed long before that. It could’ve been when Team Secret held a 15k gold lead at 20 minutes, a 9-1 kill lead at 5 minutes, or at the start of the game, where panel analysts and casters declared that it was the biggest outdraft of the finals.
The event ended in a letdown with that loss, only because it followed several thrilling games, including a signature performance by w33ha on Invoker in game 3. To Liquid’s credit, the one win they pulled off against Secret was a brilliant display of execution and maneuvering.
Liquid started off strong with some early towers off their push lineup of Beastmaster, Lycan, and Invoker. However, Secret managed to stabilize for a moment, threatening to take over with a draft better suited for team fight and late game. Liquid managed to avoid a full confrontation, dividing up Team Secret around the map, picking them off, and split pushing. In one instance, Mindcontrol was pushing on his own with Beastmaster while the rest of his team occupied Team Secret at the Roshan pit. Amidst the confusion, Puppey and Pieliedie rotated to defend their tower. Mindcontrol picked off Puppey, finished Pieliedie with a Roar and a timely Sunstrike from Fata, and TP’d out between Secret’s cooldowns.
Team Secret faced stiff competition while sweeping through the upper bracket of the main event, defeating previous Major Champions, OG (2:1), longtime rivals, EG (2:1), and Team Liquid, twice (2:0 and 3:1). They will returning home with the title and the 1st place prize of 1.1 million dollars.

Speak freaking ENGLISH for crying out loud....
Seriously, nobody gives a shit about learning Russian since English is most universal language...
wasnt DAC an official valve event too?
Thanks for the spoilers.
@Klonu, you're an idiot. Chinese is the most popular language.
Now I'm gonna use that argument against you.
了解中国你他妈的白痴
Nobody's even talking about Liquid's second place finish? EleGiggle Secret fans
Chales, and you are an ignorant. This article is wrote in English? yes? so cry me a river, moron.
Btw, shame to organizators for event overwiew.
About the Team Secret, they totally deserved winning this, gratz.
GG WP, this event is the proof that EternalEnVy best Carry in the world, even though a little bit sloppy like artezee
@Chales yes but only in china speak chinese and mby a few others there a lot more countrys that speak english than chinese. We all now that the chinese are like rabbits.

Ликвиды красавцы
SUPREME
Really grats on Liquid for finishing second, it was beautiful to watch them beat EG.
I've got to say the game Secret lost against Liquid in the finals -> they didn't go for BKB-s, which was pretty bad imo.. Ice wall just raped Secret whole game.
Puppey still the best captain, no doubt in that.
Congratulations to Team Secret and legend Puppey! :-) FeelsGoodMan
Finally we can go back to posts that are actually interesting.
For now Puppey is my idol! Feels goodman ahhahahah
xD @Chales chinese is not the most popular language, english has both more speakers worldwide atm and also is taught in schools everywhere at much higher percentage, also the most universal and most popular are 2 completely different things but you're wrong either way.
If liquid won the major, it would be kuroky's title..... not puppey's
To be perfectly honest TI is THE ultimate tournament to win, while majors are major of course, but its not same.
And to be perfectly honest I was starting to being disapointed by their recent performance, but they stepped it up! Congrats TS!
Grats Secret. Hope they get their keyboards back.
kuroky made a huge blunder early in game 4 pretty much sealing the game for secret after liquid was already outdrafted
it's unfortunate we didn't see a closer, 5 game grand finals at shanghai but no doubt secret are the grand champions of that tournament and the current meta. props to them.
EE MVP
Unexpected and I am glad that Secret(and yeah my favourite Puppey) finally won. Great to see them against "Kuroky´s" Liquid in finals. As you can see....anyone can possibly win...I almost feel EHOME´s hype after they won and a lot of people thought they are the best or something..lesson learned and finally it´s Secret who earned the credit. :))
gegewepe team secret
Happy to see EE winning something
I didn't get what was in their minds to pick drow into beastmaster, slark, doom, wr, lion in the last game of majors.
In the pro scene drow is usually picked just for the physical aura boost.
ЗАПУСКАЕМ ГУСЯ РОБОТЯГИ! <(*)
Congrats :)
Congrats Puppey
