Another solution would be, only make the divisions public, the rest private, only for the player to see when he logs in.
No flaming about something like 10 points that way.
Would work for me.
Wouldn't surprise me if dotabuff charges money if you want to see others ratings though...
Seeing only my own is fine with me anyway, great feature either way!
An option may be the best solution but I think even we have the option whether to show our rating, the privacy is still an unsolved problem because if someone has a relatively high rating then why should he hide it? When you are browsing someone's page and can't see his rating, what will you guess?
It should be public and then opt in to be private, atleast like that only the terrible players will want to hide their ranking and it will be obvious who they are.
There might be an option like if you keep your ratings private you cant see anyone in the ranking. But if you enable your rating to public then you can see other players' ratings (ofc the ones who decided to make it public as well)
Best solution imo, you give people choice and don't take responsibility of what would happen (if would)
I think Hi's idea of making the division public and the rating opt-in is perfect. I would probably make my rating public anyway, but it will satisfy the people that don't want public ratings as well
Probably words and quotes/sentences when DBR will arrive:
LOL THIS GUY IS BRONZE AND HE PICKED CARRY!!!1111111111111111111
OMFG NOOBS AGAIN
WHAT THE HELL IAM DOING HERE? GOLD MATCH WITH BRONZE...
FFS 0.8kdr PICKED CARRY?
L2P NOOB
BRONZE SHOULD SUPPORT
NO WARDS/COURIER BRONZE TRASH?
And the best one:
NOOB TEAM ONCE AGAIN FML!
Abandonment by goldplayer. This is early abandonment, stats won't be recorded in this match.
That will be 100% but lets try to rage some stupid kids, who cares about DBR and winning/losing.
:D
In my opinion brackets should have 100pts width.
because between 1800 and 1600 its so big differences
If someone takes the time to alt tab and search for every name on their team, then we can make fun of them for being the real loser. Chances are that people like those will get flamed back from the other 4/5 on a team.
its a huge pain in the ass, not to mention way to fucking expensive if you skipped gen iv like a lot of people (including me)
nobody should make such a big deal of ratings.. I will just find it interesting to know how I am compared to all of you losers. If people start adjusting their playstyle based on peoples DBR I will be very surprised and laugh at the miserable sob... :D
Deveon, go check out HoN. That exact situation happens all the time. And the problem isn't people flaming others, its that they actively change their behavior and play-style because of it.
laughed my ass off after "as a very high skilled competitive player". sorry I can't read anymore of your bullshit.
I agree with InvisiblePudge (OsynligaPudge) Swedish word.
Im positive aswell. To go public. In dota-league in the good old days, The rating system was amazing.
"laughed my ass off after "as a very high skilled competitive player". sorry I can't read anymore of your bullshit."
??
He is in very high...
And you are not btw, so I don't get your point.
Eh. Honestly I think the system solves problems.
Right now, all that people have to judge you is your win/loss ratio. In the example they provided, it showed that someone with a roughly 50/50 ratio was still ranked in the 99% percentile.
If anything, I think it might help things. WLR doesn't mean much - sometimes you're on a winning streak, sometimes you're on a losing streak. Overall most people's hovers around 50/50. In game, people use number of wins, which also isn't necessarily a great indicator. Plus, if the system is any good, you're probably going to be matched with people who are ranked with you, so it'd be silly for them to flame you for being bronze if they themselves are also bronze.
Just wait until Friday and then 2, 3 days more to see how the community accepts the MMR system and then make changes.
Right now it's just useless whining about something that no one has tried.
private db rating will be best way to put yourself into loooong lpq(if you play mid/safe lane carry most of the time)

I feel like this is the only way to make everyone happy. General stats would still be available publicly anyways and so I think the fact that 1/4th of the dota population wants their rating to be private should be respected. Valve has a private MMR for a reason and I think its important to respect this fact as it keeps all the dick measuring contests out of the game and allows you to just play for fun. Even as a very high skilled competitive player I would not want to get cut out of teams which I enjoy playing in and do well in just because of a dota buff rating system which probably doesn't calculate all the factors that go into making a good team. Things like the human factor, the ability to maintain your cool and keep the team from tilting. These factors can make a team of diamond players do much better than another hot headed diamond player. In an age where no one has privacy of anything I hope Dotabuff recognizes the utility of providing it and gives players the option of showing their rating or keeping it private.
