i suggest using "ublock" which is a far more better extension, not only does it use less resources from your cpu and ram, it also stops websites from collecting information you do on the internet without your consent

What you're failing to realize is that for some people, this is their job (I'm sure you have no clue what this word means). They deserve every penny that they can get out of it because this website is really amazing especially with the new "Truesight" update. A lot of fucking time and effort went into creating this website, and I'll be damned if some neckbeard is going to attempt to mock me over wanting this place to continue and thrive more than it is. I would like bigger and better updates to come than the "Truesight" update. More info, more stats, and more players throwing in useful ideas and topics. When you run shit like adblock, you're slowing the growth of these new projects by decreasing their funding.
We possibly could have had updates like this a lot more frequently and sooner if a bunch of ignorant kids were willing to let some stuff chill in the background while you cry on forums about "Fix this, bring this back, why wont this work, this is kind of buggy, why isn't this place more organized" etc, etc. . .

I was the first user to use the | Dotabuff.com "tag". After Mxfrei and Avidity did the whole dotaroot thing, I 100% agreed that tagging (your name | Website) would help the community grow. (being a helpful player, giving knowledge where I can and whatnot would help the community grow in a positive way.) I like this website a lot. I'm a total whore for stats and KDA. If bejeweled had a KDA system I would totally be on that shit. It's more or less free advertising to this website because I enjoy it so much.
Dotaroot required its members to wear the tag, I thought the advertising idea was great and remotely mimic'ed it except replaced "Dotaroot" with "Dotabuff". I want to help the community grow, because this website really helped me learn a lot about the game.

We try to keep our Ads really unobnoxious (and i'm pretty sure we drive our ad guy crazy in that department). However, if you ever see an ad that has pop-ups, plays audio on it's own, takes over the website, etc. Please let me know. If possible let me know what browser you were using and what the ad is for (screenshots are amazing).
While we occasionally have site takeovers with skin ads and such, what ends up happening is that ad networks sneak in obnoxious ads without our knowledge. This has been a big issue on mobile, unfortunately. I end up reporting a few ads a week, but I would love if you guys could help me track anything down if you see it.
TLDR - obnoxious ads are unintentional please let us know so we can remove that advertiser.

It honestly depends what kind of advertising model they've gone for, and I shouldn't think people wanting to block ads shouldn't be frowned upon by any means.
Let me make an guess here and say that they have gone for what is known as a "Pay per page view" type deal. That means any given URL if popular enough (Alexa ref. http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/dotabuff.com) will attract advertisers on this basis because they know that enough people will view the page and therefore their ads.
I find ad blocker to not be that harmful to those who want to not have floods of ads on either this or other pages. If people put ads on their site here are a number of things I firmly believe in.
1. It cheapens the overall image of the company as it shows reliance on ad revenue, but this is the internet so who cares.
2. Along the lines of who cares, who really does care if ads show or not, people are in no way obligated to have to see ads on frequently used sites.
3. Lots of "free" sites who provide a lot of helpful stuff have ads that I would prefer blocked as I am there for the meaningful content it provides and not for all the hot singles looking for me.
4. Ads collect information and this in turn CAN hurt users who frequently search for stuff or browse around. (Some guy tested this looking for bird stuff for two days, the result was tons of spam mail and ads in relation to birds)
TLDR Ad block doesn't really hurt income by that much due to a small % actually using it. If I want to support something I will donate or go plus but I don't feel non-paying users need to feel obligated to see ads. Ads are not a cash cow.
@havoc - i haven't looked at the numbers lately, but on our site 50-70% of people use ad blockers. Considering that ads are a HUGE portion of our income it really adds up. I don't blame anyone for using ad blocker, but it certainly doesn't support the site.
i'll also add that for the first ~6 months - 1 year of being online Dotabuff was ad free. We were really hesitant to put ads up for a lot of the reasons you mentioned. We were also working for free and investing tens of thousands a month into hosting costs. When we launched plus with our previous replay parsing and the whole DBR shenanigan we had to put ads on the site because it wasn't solvent. If that launch had gone better (with Valve) it's possible Dotabuff would still be an ad free site. Dotabuff is really a labor of love for me, but there is only so long I can live off my savings. I appreciate those who don't use adblock for this reason - it lets me do what I love.
That said I do understand why people use it and I don't hold it against anyone.

Ads are just not a reliable source of income for a lot and have been on the decline since about 2007, (IMO) giving people access to the true sight stuff or some other features for $3 or something might help instead of an all or nothing deal on the Plus features. Also when you're about to do a massive update why not try getting it community funded through a kickstarter or something as there are a lot of people who would probably help.
EDIT: Is the something members can contribute to beyond the $6 a month.....or do you have a wishlist you could post. This will give users an idea of what's up and coming and also be aware of the costs and possible help out.
The good news is that Dotabuff is solvent now! Getting more money would let us make features faster and hire more people so that would be nice. However, I don't see a need to beg for donations. I'm proud of the fact that we are a gaming site that is able to pay it's contributors. A lot of sites - despite making money won't pay some of their contributors. Instead, contributors pay with their passion.
Can passion be slang for wallet? Get a paypal for DB, make a donate button. I am "passionate" about this website as I'm sure others are and I'm sure a few of us are more than welcome to do whatever we can. It's not really begging imho. You have a plus feature. Supporters that want something in return or extra features can do that. But like havoc said. I'm sure there's a few that feel what DB gives us is worth more than 6 dollars a month.
Also, the ability to Gift Plus time without directly Card > Gift > User would be nice.
IE someone has paid for 6 months of their own time but invites a friend to the website and would like to let him see what cool features plus has so he donates X days/months to him. The time is removed from the first persons account and placed to the newer user.
^ Not just that but I would like to purchase Plus for a few of my friends but there is no way to pay for them bar getting their login details.
...in fact we should be able to gift it to users based on ID and the system should work it out. e.g. to gift it to me on checkout they can input the user 90503334 etc.
I dont see how pleading for people to take off adblock is any different that pleading for people to give you donations
adding a small donate button after "plus" at the top or after "twitter" in the bottom is not pleading for donations, if someone wants to donate they can find it
