I was like very young when I played this and I was always playing with some older guys that set up servers that I just joined. I didn't really get to notice what game mode I was playing.
I hope that shit comes to DotA 2, cause it was really fun!
There was also another mod where you could it was like one area.
Like 6 bases (You could play 3v3 or some shit too, playing 3 players in one base) You had your powerful hero + units you could purchase.
You could also upgrade towers and shit if im not mistaken.
The map looked something like this as I remember it:

^ Nice drawing skills :D, i remember one mode where you would defend against incoming waves of creeps that got stronger and stronger, and also some sort of tower defense but instead of towers - heroes.
^ I guess you're referring to Enfo. That game is hell ass long and with like infinite waves of creeps almost always never make it to the end thanks to boredom.
The tower defense version of that game was Mauls, of which there were like 10 hundred million. Final Fantasy Maul, LOTR Maul, Star Wars Maul...
And Wintermaul Wars, where you upped your static income by buying monsters to send at the enemy.

Oh boy, I actually remember myself solo-wining a few versions of Enfo (well, it counts as a loss though).

Btw, "usual wc3" was usually called "ladder"
i miss ladder, i wish i tried harder when i was young i made 3 of the finals for the solo tourneys when i was like 12-14 i coulda probly been pretty good lol

I know exactly what your talking about because I was trying to recall the name of that mod as well. You could upgrade your towers and village to spawn larger stronger creeps to push. I remember the Yurnero character was pretty strong too. Ahhhhh, what was it.

If you have some mod you remember, that you don't remember name of you could also state in in comments..
I remember playing WC3 when I was younger, and there was some type of map/mod where you would spawn in some area (each player has their own area), and you build your "village", gather resources from trees (resources) and mines (gold).
With this you could create an army and attack other players base and eventually win.
There was also some type of neutrals you could kill for money, they seemed to be pretty strong (or I was just fuckin bad)
Anyone?
