when i played him i got manta most of the times just because it helps me push soooo much faster.
sny is faster to farm and i think that when you are losing from the start its better to get sny.
        just my opinion.

          cuz matrice gets sny

            why

manta provide nothing early-mid if you intend to participate at some smal squirmich, (cause illu insta die to the less usefull aoe nuke) so basically, for less gold you more a bit more hp/ms and a slow.
In addition, as long as you don't put som1 below 100 ms, each slow is stronger than the first one applyed, so no, it's not redundant with skady.

going from 300 to 200, is not even close the the power from 200 to 100
(if the target has 350ms, you put it down to 98ms--> 100ms).

On building of manta will be strong than sy, that's obvious.
But, on moving target, the question you have to ask yourself is:
Is it better to add 2 illusions of +28% damage on top of your self + 1 or 2 illusions of 60% damage, or is better to divide by ~2 the ms of your target?

In a 1v1 case the answer is obviously the 2nd, as you are much stronger than anyone in 1v1 case, so they have to run from you.
In a perfect case (so target is chain stunned), the 2 illusions from manta are "only" an increase of 25% damage (35% if you have only one illusion up).
On the other hand, i musst admit that when i buy both hex and sy, i'm mistaken, as the benefit of sy over manta, is totally negligeable when the target is hexed.

Last but not least, the main difference of the choice between sy and manta is, how do you want to build your tb,
Increase even further his good part (splitpush/push/dps)
              Decrease his weakness (fighting, chasing)

Then what you need to do, is asking you those two questions (accordingly to your play style, and to the picks / what happened in the game):

1]Am I strong enough in my good part to allow myself to increase my versatility in that game.
2]Upgrading my good part will be enough to win the game ?

1] --> yes, i can build sy, if no, check question2]
2] --> yes, i MUSST build manta, if no, do w/e you like

Note that it is "i can" and not "i musst" for question 1

Edit: most of time, i answer "yes" to first question

                s&y, then manta.

                Guts

Manta is better but I prefer sange and yasha, gives terrorblade better chasing overall. Manta will give you to metamorphed illusions which hit quite hard. Rat dota definetly manta
