it returns physical attacks back to the attacker based off of centaurs str and when its an aura ur allies str
and when its an aura ur allies str
You'd be surprised, but even when it's an aura it still returns damage based on centaur's strength. I tested this in a lobby by spawning a teammate, and having the enemy two shot himself by attacking a level 1 axe because he had a centaur with 6 hearts close by.
Also, Return damage doesn't really RETURN anything, it spawns a completely new damage instance for every attack, even if it's 100% blocked (think focus fire vs crimson guard), and deals it to the attacker. This damage is physical and goes through BKB, but it has no-return tag so if you get blademail and attack centaur, the damage he deals to you by return won't be returned via blademail.
when you hit someone with a right click, you take 22 + 75% of centaurs strength as physical damage.
so if centaur has 200 str, you take 172 physical damage, which is then reduced by armor but not by damage block
all return aura damage is based on centaur's strength. so hitting CM will still hurt like fuck if centaur is stacking str items.
this can be especially distressing if centaur is paired with a medusa or spectre and they get to the lategame
So in order to use its full potential, the centaur must increase his strength for a stronger 3rd skill aura?
@Mezzo: that is correct, but items like AC are good too, since the damage is physical
I'd imagine dazzle + centaur is retardedly strong since you can reduce people's armor by a shitton, and then have an AoE return aura so that the enemy has to give up rax since there's no fucking way they'll fight you.
yes
heart adds 33 physical damage to every return proc for example
you could also consider damage mitigation like crimson guard or aghs an "increase" in the aura, as taking more hits before dying means that you do more net damage with the aura
^everyone in 900 range of centaur gets the return ability, but the damage they return is based off centaur's strength, not their own
what they just explained but in a Aura "if they hit your CM for example, and CM is within the aura range they get the return dmg they did to CM but based on centaur's strength" hope it helps
So does it mean that when centaur doesnt have the lvl 25 talent yet, his teammates dont have the return aura? I understand it now, just a little bit confused.
forgot to mention that, but yes
also naturally it doesn't work in illusions (since 6.88e it doesn't even work on his own illusions)
but works on creep heroes (bear and golems get it too)
at level 25 you have to select return aura as a talent choice in order for it to work
just getting level 25 isn't enough
yes. centaur needs level 25 to grant return to his teammates. before level 25 it is a personal ability only
Thank you so much for answering guys. One last clarification, I posted this topic because I'm planning to have a STR strat for our local team tournament this coming january and my priority bans are: od, aa, ursa, axe, ud while my priority picks are: slard, ls, daz, invo, centaur. Is that strat legit? I'm taking invo as our mid because our mid player's only legit hero is invo and i think im putting the centaur at the 4th position. If someone can correct my strat, any suggestions or criticism, i'd gladly take it thank you so much.
pos4 centaur probably wouldn't be so good for this return aura strat because you would want to get level 25 asap so prioritizing his early levels would be better (pos 3 centaur)
i read someone said combined it return aura with spectre or medusa.... . Dayum no doubt return aura will be very powerfull with durable carry. will try when have a chance
I just realized how stupid and confusing the new description for "Return" is:
"Centaur applies an aura to nearby allied units. Causes allies to counters every attack, damaging the attacker based on a percentage of Centaur's strength."
The "aura" doesn't even have a radius until you reach level 25 and if you chose a different talent this description becomes plain wrong and useless.
A lot of new players must be confused TBH.

Can someone please explain to me what does centaurs 3rd skill really do? I mean, especially the aura. Thank you so much.
