1) do not add score for matches played. minimum matches is fine. maybe a small multiplier (0.8 to 1.0) to score based on matches, curved up to x1.0 when you get to 100 matches (example).
2) use recent matches only. probably past 12 months/1 year is fine.
this would literally take no time at all to fix and improve it by a lot.
and before "wahh hero rankings pointless" ... THAT'S THE POINT of this thread.
