there no fair way of doing it unless you avoid people the ability to pick the same hero.
I actually shared a full rant about this on twitter the other day: https://twitter.com/CptnCanuckDota/status/1136849448280027136
TL;DR - Having first pick is an insane disadvantage because the second pick team in most scenarios will be able to counter pick with their carry and their mid player, meaning their two highest impact heroes have favorable lanes.
Why would someone care about this, the advantage one could possible get from this is thrown away in like 99.5% of All games anyways.
I think the last pick advantage only apply in higher mmrs like 5k and above, i would say atleast 40% of the games in 3k got a first pick pudge so after the pos6 pick the opponent can rule out alot of control/burst/save heroes.
1 2 2 - First Pick The last 2 pick counters the enemy's 4 picks, has most contested heroes unbanned pickable
2 2 1 - Second Pick The last 1 pick counters the enemy's 2 picks, has Mid heroes most of the time, counter advantage
actually both teams has some advantage, but I must admit, a countered midlaner is very punishing
tip: u can ask nicely somebody else go mid :)
if enemy counters 3 cores with just one last pick and nobody else can lane instead of u, you just deserve to lose , u fucked up in draft buddy.

maybe just pick mid on 3 and turn disadvantage to advantage? u will get countered anyway.
Y but you dont mention that they usually have offlaner and carry already picked and you have 2 picks.
I dont think that last pick is too strong, i just think that people can't accept that if they dont have last pick, they cant play their cool flashy heros. Honestly who wants to be a betamale that picks razor or viper mid.
But first pick sets the tone of the game, while last pick has to be smartly picked around said tone. I'd rather be in control with first pick and anticipate a serious counter by picking before the counter is picked.
they made it worse during time, first hiding profile stats from non-friends (which before we could see mrlastpick's profile and check for possible cancer hero spamming and do something about it. second they made it turn picking, i wanna lose god until i see enemy midder, but now i have to pick and face a lastpick brood, meepo or ... which we have no power against
How about if after the last pick is made one player from the other team (the mid) has the option to re pick but at a 150 gold loss.
Yeah, drafting as the first pick can always pick the possible counter first, then pick the main hero right after that, very cool on safe lane or off lane scenarios, but as mid pos 2, that needs to revolve around pos 4 using the counter (which must be a mid lane hero of possible counter).
The team can secure the off lane (I do think a tank and aura carrier is a must) and the carry, and here's the problem : not all mid lane heroes can be played as pos 4 (e.g. Tinker, SF, and so on) so in the end, first pick have limited option to their mid lane match up, while last picks have disadvantage in the side lanes and the most contested pos 5 will always goes to the first pick.
Maybe it is better to pick the counter of the worst match up to our mid lane, so if our mid weak against Silencer, pick him right before picking our mid in the last 2 draw.

Something should be made to balance it. The advantage u get from it is too big tbh.
Maybe both team should get the last pick (hero not showed until both team done pick). Even it mean two same heroes its ok.
Any thoughts?
