He's my best friend, we both made that smurf year ago or so.
I decided to abandon it, since smurfing wasn't fun for me. So did he for a while.
What happened is, that he lost huge amounts of MMR few weeks ago on his main".
He decided to give SMURF a try, and since games were, at least, in terms of quality better compared to his main, he liked it and keept on going with smurf.
Now, here's few important factors.
- We made that account during ZEUS abuse period
- We spamed ZEUS(mostly he, I have barely above 10 games overall on that account tbh)
- It placed account on VHS, beign stable there after he came back to it for over 100+ games.
- Lately, he got into high-skill and switched back to VHS few times
Now , finally, he unlocked ranked, and during his FIRST game which was Tuskar, game was average of 3650 MMR.
Even tho he WON that game, his next game AVG. mmr was about 50 points lower, which resulted in 3600 MMR.
He found a game now, his avg. MMR is 3580 even tho he WON his secound game as WW.
Since calibration matches are done by some algorithm, I can assume that XPM/GPM/CS/TD/HD and so on means and is taken into coinsideration.
Beign only 3th or even less for his past 2 games resulted in reduced avg. mmr of his next games even tho he won them.
So basically, we all know that ranked MMR starts from normal mm sample, since he was bouncing between hs and vhs lately it's normal to assume he's actually 3.650 for his first ranked match.
Now, I'd also like to point-out fact that while playing my first games on this account, my average mmr was 4.2k(I just added them and checked it) - since avg. mmr didn't exist back then.
HOwever, after losing 2 games and abandoning third, I ended up at 3.8-3.7k MMR. Winning 2 of 10 matches finally gave me 3625 MMR.
My point is - what you play, how you play, how much impact you have during calibration matches seems to matter.
Win is important, but only to maintain current avg. MMR, however, if you WIN and perform badly, it's proven(at least now), that you can end-up in next-ranked game with lower avg. mmr.
Basically, he won 2 games and instead of having lclearly +50 he actually went about -75.
Well I know I can. I was several times 4k on my main, so if I wanted to smurf I'd be able to smurf even probably above 4k.
I mean, I average last 6 months mostly above 3.7, so I think with my best heroes I'd be able to calibrate at least low 4k or 3.9k even if I have very bad winrate.
