since i quit dota i want to play a mmorpg game like back in 2007 where there were lots of popular mmorpg games like WoW, runescape, silkroad or knight online or even the oldest one, ultima online. I downloaded couple of them for nostalgia yesterday, it was sad to see everwhere empty where i had so many memories. except WoW which is still a bit popular. Is there a new popular mmorpg game that i can try these days to kill some time?

Ya try Tera. It's free on Steam.

      Pippo^

        Is it good?

        faw

          play wow

          Chadzpyre

Tera and wow are about it. Tera player base has reallly dropped though.. Game coming out later this year called lost ark, has some mmorpg promise.

            registered flex offender

Guild Wars 2 is probably the best mmorpg for your money. 60 bucks up front and you get a game that you could easily sink 300+ hours into

              Dire Wolf

I honestly don't remember any of them remaining popular after the initial buzz aside from wow. Guild wars has kind of a niche audience, so does rift I think, but all the others seemed to fizzle out after a year or so like Star Wars old republic and age of Conan and aion.

                  Elder Scrolls Online.

pso2 japan still has a very huge playerbase. it even has 1 server filled with english speakers but most of the players are jap of course

                      Hmmm Lost Ark is meh.

Try Tera, OP. You can add me on steam, I get bored (a little tilted) sometimes and take a break from Dota. I am fairly new to Tera with less than 40 hours xD

It is a pretty friendly community too.

I need to remember which server I play on though if you happen to want to play together

I also made my friends quit DotA so we are looking for an mmorpg that benefits from party
I'm thinking of Tera or Guild Wars 2 right know but i dont know which one is better to play with friends im still doing some research currently. We will include you in if we decide to play on tera.

                          @1iceTea
                          like?

@alice we dont like anime and futuristic games

                          @EmotionalDrift
Thats was my first decision since i like elder scroll games but i cant make my friends pay that much to a game since there is a change that we wont like it

                            Rift xD

Man I have 50 hours on Rift :(

i still play old one like dragonnest sea, the server still on with tons of player still playin, but for farming needs a few years to get the max lvl with decent equipments

                                Dire Wolf

There's a neverwinter one that's free to play. I loaded it just to see what it was, seemed like a wow clone so it might be ok. That IP is pretty decent.

                                    WoW
                                    Tera
                                    Final Fantasy 14

                                    Nubtrain

WoW and FF14 MMO are probably your best bet at the present. Everquest Next is another that's coming out soonish(?) but I don't remember much recent news about it.

edit: nvm everquest next is cancelled

Tera is probably the best free to play MMO, the community was already a good size, then it blew up cause it released on Steam client too, so it got more exposure.

Phantasy Star Online 2 is also godlike, but sadly it hasn't come to the west, many people have been waiting years for Sega to release a legit english official version, but nothing stlll. :(

UPDATE: I downloaded both Guild wars 2 and TERA Online to see which one suits us best, Tera online is really fun to play but also annoying because of some races. There are players who plays as "Elin" which is a very disturbing race to see. Because they are 9 years old girls that runs with panties and moans when attacks or getting attacked. I can't stand to see them for 1 minute yet people play as them for hours and suprisingly majority of players picks them. And then there is "Cascanic" race. They look like lesbians and and active gays. Also "High elves" looks like passive gays and strippers. And "Popori" are for furries. Guild wars 2 had a Lord of the rings feeling. Graphics were also better and had better athmosphere. Races were actually cool too.

^because back in the day games like WoW and runescape were amazing. They had so many players to compete against that every area was crowded and different. mmorpgs are unfortunately pretty dead except wow(sorta). It would be amazing if something like the next WoW came out, I'd play the shit outta it.

                                                            Feichang Gaoxing

Try warframe. I play it in between dota 2 matches. Or if i have 2 straight loss. Not exactly mmo but its gud. Graphics are amazing.

                                                              BoJack

Im pretty sure its still active, no idea about size though

                                                                The Half-Blood Prince

                                                                  Este comentario fue editado
                                                                  Dire Wolf

wow and other games like it are also becoming dated. I haven't played wow since cataclysm so 4 or 5 years, but back then you read all that quest text, the textures supposedly got updated but the game still looked about 5 years behind everything else, the mechanics don't really change they just add more stuff, then there's too much stuff and they have to revamp all the talent trees cus it's too many buttons to push. In 2004 when wow came out top single player rpg type games were like GTA san andreas and knights of the old republic. Go look at some vids of those, fun games but block graphics basically. Wow was pretty cutting edge at the time.

Fast forward to just 2009, almost all of the dialogue in dragon age origins is voiced, graphics are leaps and bounds ahead of wow, or next year mass effect 2, incredible game. And wow just starts to look dull and play dull cus you read everything, it's less immersive than it once was.

                                                                    Player 123655765

Try AION although not a steam game, created by NCsoft. Best MMORPG for me, a lot of things to do. Fun and Exciting, a lot of PvP and PvE.

                                                                      Dire Wolf

i thought aion sucked tbh, awful full anime style, very wow like but skills didn't make much sense

                                                                        Player 123655765

^^^I don't know, maybe it depends on the type of player you are. for me AION offers a lot, you can be focused on pvp w/c always goes to war. or PVE and always hunts for bosses. It has a big map a lot of dungeons and to add you can buy your own house. Sims with fighting. plus community is great. I was never bored playing it, I only stopped playing because of work.

I fell in love with the graphics, cause just like you said "anime like" and I love anime. So yeah AION. miss that game.

                                                                          Este comentario fue editado

Maybe I didn't give Aion enough of a shot, I played my 30 days included with the base game and went back to wow. I'm sure it's been patched a billion times since then. When you say you miss it though it's still online, you can still play it.

I actually really liked a lot of things about Age of Conan. The style, the setting and environment, the attention to detail, the lore, all of that was amazing. The classes also seemed very well done. There were two gigantic issues when it came out though.

One was items and stats. No one really knew how they worked and it wasn't clear and didn't work well. Better items did barely anything for your heroes. Unlike wow which had a very simple 1 strength = x amount of hp and dmg for warrior class, original AoC had very weird stats like slashing dmg and slashing armor vs piercing dmg and piercing armor. However I believe this got totally revamped in future versions so items make sense now.

But the last time I played it, I did give the free to play version a shot, this issue was still there which just ruins the game. The combat is an active system where you press a button to attack, kind of like skyrim. There's not auto attack like wow or dota. Along with this you can choose the direction of your attack, left, middle or right, and on the opposing side you can switch to defend those attacks. But a huge issue with all of this is animations. Many attack animations are super slow and stop you from moving so you cannot hit a moving target. A bunch of skill animations are same way so they become practically worthless in pvp. I'm not sure if they ever balanced or fixed it.

But while a game like skyrim works cus 1 it's not multiplayer, and 2 you don't have a ton of skills so it's more like an action game, combining the skill hotkeys with all your manual attacks in AoC was too complicated. They wanted to make the game require skill cus a lot of people bitched that wow was only about gear and not skill, so they went a different direction, but in the end it didn't really work.

                                                                              Este comentario fue editado
                                                                              Dire Wolf

I downloaded that vanilla wow client and tried it. The server lags like none other though. Latency says it's fine but I'm losing a ton of packets cus it'll freeze and then stutter. I think too many people are on it.

And then I forgot how tedious and boring vanilla wow is lol. First quest, go collect meat from 8 wolves. Ok, I shoot them once or twice, then wait for my guy to auto attack them down. Yawn. Next quest, go kill me 12 boars. Really? 30 mins in I'd killed countless boars and wolves to get to level 4. Honestly it's a lot of grinding, even if it is like the least grindy mmorpg made. But compared to dota where you are in the action immediately it's quite dull and idk if I can go back. Besides, vanilla wow actually kind of sucked if you think about it. Huge balance issues, talent respecs ungodly expensive, most classes forced into one build for raiding or pvp and that's it.

I think burning crusade or lich king were actually the best versions. Burning crusade had the best raid dungeons as I recall. In vanilla molten core was awfully dull and blackwing lair was brutally difficult and kind of dull as well. Naxaramas was better but came way late in the game, and anquraji or whatever was totally weird. In bc the raid with lady vashj was awesome, as was the blood elf one can't remember the name. But they had great variety and difficulty balance. Lich kind though had really great 5 man dungeons with the heroic versions and such. And northrend was just such a cool continent.

                                                                                Johnny Rico

come play guild wars with me.

Guild wars 2 is pretty alive, i always do group events iwth around 7 people at least.

                                                                                  Este comentario fue editado

You start playing them for fun until you become an actual competitive player that tries to get somewhere. Then the game gets depressing instead of entertaining
